CARIBBEAN AFFAIRS A hole lot of trouble
Residents of Syndicate Road, Bush Hall, St Michael, are
fearful of an eight to ten-foot deep hole in their
community.
The hole, which is about four feet wide and filled with
water, resulted from work done by the Barbados Water
Authority (BWA) in response to a burst main a few weeks ago,
residents claimed.
Concerned residents said yesterday they feared children
in the area might be hurt if the problem was not dealt with
immediately.
One in particular, Anderson Bovell, said the BWA visited
the area on Friday after the main burst again.
"[They] just went along and left the hole open. No signs,
no cans, just a few cones and all the marl in the road. No
cars can pass.
The worst part is that we called them on Saturday to let
them know it had burst again and we have seen no one since.
We have a lot of children in this neighbourhood and if any
of them fall in, they will drown," he said.
Several attempts were made to get a comment from the BWA,
but when reached, General Manager Denis Year-wood referred
the DAILY NATION to the Communications and Marketing
Department. (Barbados Nation)
