Dominique Wilkins talks about
Diabetes
NBA Legend
Dominque Wilkins used his diagnosis of Type 2 Diabetes to
impact the lives of those around him through diabetes
education
Seven years ago I found out I had Type 2 Diabetes. For
about two or three months, I was really feeling awful. I had
dry mouth, fatigue, vision was a little blurry and I had to
use the restroom every five minutes. I went and got tested
and the doctor did a four-hour test on me. He came back and
said, "I have good news and bad news. The good news is
you’re not dying." I said, "Well, OK. What’s the bad news?"
He said, ‘The bad news is you’re a diabetic, Type 2. We have
to immediately put you on medication because your blood
sugar level is 350-375. Your natural sugar level should be
under 120. It’s amazing you are walking. It takes a real
strong person to be walking around with your blood sugar
that high." He said I had to take as much sugar as possible
out of my diet and change my lifestyle.

DRINK WATER ON EMPTY STOMACH
It is popular in Japan today to drink water immediately
after waking up every morning. Furthermore, scientific tests
have proven its value. We publish below a description of the
use of water for our readers. For old and serious diseases
as well as modern illnesses, water treatment has been found
successful by a Japanese medical society as a 100% cure for
the following diseases: Headache, body ache, heart system, arthritis, fast heart
beat, epilepsy, excess fatness, bronchitis, asthma, TB,
meningitis, kidney and urine diseases, vomiting, gastritis,
diarrhea, piles, diabetes, constipation, all eye diseases,
womb, cancer and menstrual disorders, ear, nose and throat
diseases.

Pfizer wins U.S. approval for new HIV drug
Pfizer Inc (PFE.N) said, two Mondays, ago that U.S.
regulators approved its AIDS drug, Selzentry, the first in a
new class of oral HIV medicines. Selzentry is the first drug designed to keep the HIV
virus that causes AIDS from entering healthy immune cells.
Older AIDS medicines attack the virus itself. The drug, also known as maraviroc, blocks the CCR5
co-receptor that serves as a main doorway for the HIV virus
into immune cells. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved Selzentry
for use in patients who have tried other medicines and for
those for whom a diagnostic test has confirmed their HIV
strain is linked to the CCR5 receptor. About 50 percent to
60 percent of patients who have been treated with other AIDS
drugs meet that definition, the FDA said.

Energy drinks’ caffeine in line with coffee: report
Despite such speedy-sounding names as "Full Throttle,"
"Amp" and "Rush," energy drinks pack a punch that is
generally no stronger than coffee, according to a report
released recently. A comparison of 12 popular energy drinks, published in
the September issue of Consumer Reports, found that the
caffeine in 8 ounces of various brands ranged from 50-145
milligrams (mg), though most were in the 75- to 80-mg range. Results were rounded to the nearest 5 mg. By comparison, the caffeine in an 8-oz cup of brewed
coffee can range from 65-120 mg, with an average of 85 mg,
according to the National Coffee Association. The least-caffeinated energy drink Consumer Reports
tested was the fruit punch-flavored offering by Target
Corp.’s private label, Archer Farms, with 50 mg. At the high
end was the lemon-lime flavored Celsius with 145 mg.

Odd treadmill may help stroke survivors
A weird treadmill is pushing people at a Baltimore
research hospital into sloppy versions of Michael Jackson’s
moonwalk, in hopes of training stroke survivors and others
with brain injuries to walk normally again. The custom-built treadmill hides a split belt — one side
can move one foot backward while the other moves forward,
and at different speeds. It can be a wild ride: Your brain must automatically
adjust how you walk so you won’t fall down. Scientists at the Kennedy Krieger Institute are tapping
into that unconscious adjustment, using a brief workout to
jolt patients who usually limp and lurch back into a normal
stride, one they retain for a few minutes after the
treadmill stops. The discovery: Separate nerve networks control how each
leg moves, networks that can be retrained to change
someone’s innate walking patterns, at least temporarily.

SECRET STALLION—WHAT’S THE SECRET?
A HEALTHY PROSTATE!
Let’s start from the beginning with the definition of a
prostate (n). "A gland in the male reproductive system that
surrounds the neck of the bladder and the urethra." If the
prostate gland is not maintained properly it can lead to
many difficulties/disorders. For example, the enlargement of
the prostate is a common complaint in men over the age of
50. Because of its position around the urethra, enlargement
of the prostate quickly interferes with the normal passage
of urine from the bladder. Urination becomes increasingly difficult
and the bladder never feels completely emptied. If left
untreated, the enlargement of the prostate eventually
obstructs the bladder completely and emergency measures
become necessary to empty the bladder which can be extremely
painful. In many cases an enlarged prostate left untreated
may result in a procedure called a Prostatectomy; the
surgical removal of the
prostate gland.
